Distillerie Mitis

From the meeting of two engineers a distillery was born

The project started in 2016 from a common passion for spirits, a dream of creativity and the desire to participate in the development of our region. As entrepreneurs, our value is the creation of quality and distinctive Quebec spirits.

We selected the location of our distillery for one major reason: water, an essential resource for making our aged spirits. That from the Mitis River gives us the characteristics sought to offer a product that meets the standards of the thriving fine spirits industry.

The process

In order to create products according to our values ​​and quality standards, we develop partnerships with local companies and organizations specializing in their field. We carefully select our ingredients in order to make our products unique, even atypical.

We perfect each of our production processes and we surround ourselves with the best in order to benefit connoisseurs and non-conformists and to make the Distillerie Mitis experience the most authentic.

My experience as a forest engineer allowed me to discover the richness of flavors contained in natural environments. This is what encourages me to integrate nature into our products.

I'm looking for distinctive flavors. We work hard to discover the best methods to bring out the flavors and subtleties of our ingredients to perfection. The ultimate goal: to produce distinctive spirits and bring the Distillerie Mitis experience to life.

My experience as an electromechanical engineer encourages me to innovate our distillery and think outside the box in order to optimize our production stages.

In recent years, I have had fun visiting several microdistilleries in Canada and the United States and I took the opportunity to chat with the master distillers. In addition to meeting extraordinary people, they inspired and advised me to create "THE" most user-friendly and practical distillery design.

In addition, our fermentation and distillation equipment has been custom-made, according to our specifications, in order to strive for perfection in our distillation process.

The Mitis region at the heart of each of our products

Mugo Gin was the first product marketed by the Mitis Distillery. In partnership with the Jardins de Métis, mountain pine picked mainly in the Gardens is used to make this dry gin.

The result of this partnership and this unique ingredient is a DOUBLE GOLD ranking at the 2019 New York World Wine and Spirits Competition . A highly appreciated reward following the hundreds of hours spent trying to create a high quality, different and tasty product.

The surprises continued the following year with a GOLD ranking at the Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition in 2020 with a special mention to the terroir.

Nordic Rum also rewarded

In 2021, for the launch of Nordic Rum entirely made in our facilities, we received a SILVER ranking at the New York World Wine and Spirits Competition .

Receiving this mention among many other rums from all over the world was once again an additional source of motivation to create authentic spirits. Despite our young experience in fermentation, distillation and aging in oak barrels, the expertise we have developed and the network of contacts of specialists around the world have made it possible to achieve ambitious objectives of creating a rum 100% made at the distillery. without added sugar and coloring which stands out internationally.
